Akzo Obernburg Combined Cycle Cogeneration Plant

The Obernburg (Bavaria) combined cycle cogeneration plant started operations in 1996 as a joint project of E.ON with Akzo Nobel Faser AG. A predecessor company of E.ON had a leading role in the development and realisation of the plant. The combined cycle cogeneration plant supplies Akzo Nobel with 100 MW of thermal energy and provides 61 MW of electricity to the grid. A joint venture of this size between an industrial company and an energy provider was unique in Bavaria at this point in time. The Obernburg power station was thus one of the first steps on the way to today’s energy contracting business segment. The Akzo Obernburg combined cycle cogeneration plant is part of the E.ON Bayern power station portfolio today. The plant is distinguished by its outstanding availability.
