Degussa Antwerpen N.V. (“Degussa”) invited tenders for the construction of a new CHP plant at its chemicals site in the port of Antwerp at the end of 2005. EEP founded a 50/50 joint venture (Lillo Energy) with Electrabel to develop and realise the project together.

In this project a new gas turbine, a heat recovery steam generator and counter pressure steam turbine are added to the existing plant (itself a gas turbine with heat recovery steam generator). By combining the two plants via the new steam turbine an expanded, integrated power station with about 80 MW of electricity output is created which will be operated as a combined heat and power plant.
