Jena-South Heating Power Station Combined Cycle Cogeneration Plant
In September 1996 the rebuilt heating power station in Jena-South, with an output of 225 MW of thermal energy and 200 MW of electricity, started operations. A new solution had to be found for the central heat provision of Jena after German reunification. The main aims of the reconstruction were saving primary energy, the reduction of emissions, the maintenance of district heating supplies during the reconstruction phase as well as the realisation of an economic plant concept. Natural gas was used as fuel instead of the fuel oil and lignite used previously. The conception and procurement of this combined cycle cogeneration plant was a joint project together with our colleagues in Thuringia. Construction work took place under difficult conditions because the supply to the city had to be guaranteed simultaneously.
The power station is currently owned by E.ON Thüringer Energie.
